She loves partnering with Living Vine to see Cameroonians restored from the darkness experienced in mental health disorders and substance abuse to the light and true hope of Christ through the loving work of the ministry.
In September, I’ll turn the big 4-0! The year Dad died, my sister Elizabeth walked 107 miles during their shared birthday month (November) to raise funds for the Living Vine Mental Health Clinic in Cameroon, Africa. She successfully raised funds to help build a mental health institute to train mental health workers. Today, Living Vine has some new opportunities. So, I too am taking on a challenge to raise funds for this organization that is near to our family and so tangibly forwards the Gospel.
Living Vine continues to grow as an asset for Northwest Cameroon with inpatient numbers soaring to nearly 100. Construction is continuing to meet the increasing need. Meanwhile, the training institute is seeking accreditation to expand from a 1-year to a 3-year program.
In February, we tragically lost Dad’s namesake, Ronald, the 20-year-old son of Living Vine’s director. Ronald was just three years shy of completing his medical degree and planned to work at the clinic. His last wish was to create a community safe haven for students and others who are bullied or struggling with mental health. A fund began to create such a program at Living Vine, which will in part underwrite the printing of an 80+ page booklet that serves as a memoir to Ronald and promotes the vision for this new ministry. (“Little” Ron’s YouTube channel is Grow with Ron.)
In total, about $15,000 is needed to print the booklets and complete construction. I am a swimmer–not a walker (or runner)–so with some calculations, and some miles already accomplished, I believe I can swim 40 miles by the time I turn 40. That’s 1,760 laps in the local 20-yard pool! (It takes 55 minutes to complete a mile.) If I can raise just $8.52 per lap, it will raise the funds needed.
Would you consider supporting me per mile? I look forward to us furthering this incredible ministry deep in the heart of west-central Africa together.
Thank You!
